ISLAMABAD – Tribune 24/7, the Express Media Group’s English language television channel has ceased operations firing over a 100 employees.
The channel which was still in its test phase was launched in July last year.
It is the second time the group has closed down its English channel, the first one that went by the name of Express 24/7 was closed down in November 2011 after a three-year operation. It was Pakistan’s only 24-hour English language news channel at that time.
At the time of its launch, Tribune 24/7 management had promised to “take Pakistan to the world and bring the world to Pakistan with conviction and clarity of purpose.”
The media group also runs the Urdu language Express-News Television and Express Entertainment besides the newspapers Daily Express and The Express Tribune.
The group had said that “in the new world order Pakistan has to communicate with the world in the language of the world.”
The Express Media Group has regularly laid-off hundreds of employees from its different outlets.
